Content marketing, or blogging, is a great way to get more people to your website. Unlike traditional advertising it connects with customers and potential customers on a personal level, and creates an element of expertise and trust which increases the chances they'll be spending money with you.
So how can we you get more traffic to your blog?
Do not fear! Today we'll be looking at 6 simple ways of driving more traffic to your blog
The headline / title of your blog is the first point of engagement for potential readers and within that split second that they read it, they will make the decision as to whether they will click through to it or not.
It's the perfect opportunity to grab your reader's attention with a little bit of story telling; just enough that they just have to click through to read what else you have to say. Cliffhanger comes to mind.
Take one of the most historically famous adverts, that was created almost a century ago, in 1927 by a chap called John Caples
Just the headline alone peaks your curiosity and makes you wonder... What happened?
With just the headline of this advert the creator has tapped into several emotional desires, which made the readers jump at the chance to exchange their details for the free book that was advertised here.
Of course this advertisment is almost a century old but the engagement strategy used in it is just as relevant today as it was back in 1927.
Guest blogging is where you have one of your posts published to someone else's blog.
It can be a priceless strategy to use, especially if you're newer to your industry and are aiming to gain some traction. You and your content will be exposed to a brand new audience and the best part is, is that you'll have a link back to your website from the website you're guest blogging on.
Of course you will want to find someone who is relevant to the industry you are in but the best part of it is that you don't necessarily have to find someone who has a massive following on their blog, as any new traffic is good traffic right?
(But of course making sure we're GDPR compliant ;)
It seems obvious, right? Maybe not!
A lot of people miss this valuable tool in getting people back to their blog/website. Prompting your readers to sign up to your mailing list and then sending out a mailshot everytime you publish a post, will only increase the amount of traffic you get back to your blog page and website.
Creating a specialised mailing list is a great way of reaching out to engaged subscribers, who will always open and act on the emails that you send them.
So make sure you actively collect email addresses on your mailing list, and always email out your blog articles when you add them to your website.
Internal linking is where you include links your article that link back to your own blog posts. After all you don't want the visitor leaving your website after they've read that one blog post, do you?
Try to avoid including links that say 'Click here' as it generally creates no interest and doesn't help with google indexing either.
Internal linking also encourages the visitor to keep on reading and increase page views on your blogs, it's a win-win really!
This is very simple, but a must!
Make sure you share any blog articles on all the social media platforms you use as soon as you've written a new blog article.
So if you're on Facebook, simply copy the web address of your blog article, and paste this on your timeline for your page on Facebook.
On twitter, tweet the web address for your blog article just like you would with Facebook.
And on Instagram, you can't put a link on a picture, but it's very easy to put it in your bio instead.
One great way to get people to your blog is to do some paid advertising on platforms such as Facebook Ads and Google Adwords.
With Facebook for example, this works by posting your article on Facebook as an advert so it can reach people who don't already follow you on Facebook. However, as you'll be posting a blog article rather than a straight advertisement it won't look like an advert and is more likely to captivate people and get them to your website, and familiarise them with who you are.
